HP EVA 6400 disk replacement procedure with no data loss or outage ?

People,

 

I've just received the below two email from the EVA SAN array:

Alarm type: Hardware condition change
Alarm description: Event Code: 093e420e - 4," A physical disk drive has disappeared.");

 

So what can I do to safely removed and replace the disk with the replacement drive with no issue or data loss to the existing system safely ?

FCIP tunnel creation error on DCX with FX8-24 (FOS 7.3.0a)

So I have two logical swithes that I am tying to connect via FCIP tunnle.  I have setup the IPIF's addesses and iproutes and I can ping both sides.  Here's my problem I'm trying to create the FCIP tunnel and I get this error;

 

portcfg fciptunnel 9/12 create --remote-ip 10.10.10.156 --local-ip 10.1.1.28 -b 100000 -B 150000 -v 100
Adaptive Rate Limiting and FCIP Trunking are not allowed without Advanced Extension License.

 

If I remove the -b & -B  I get this error;

 

portcfg fciptunnel 9/12 create --remote-ip 10.10.10.156 --local-ip 10.1.1.28 -v 100
Not all required parameters found for circuit creation.
Unknown Error

 

Can anyone provide me with some direction?

EVA4400 - P6550 Command View 10.3 Parser File

Hi all,

After the firmware upgrade form 11000x to 

Controller hardware: HSV300  XCS version: 11300000  XCS build: CR2306lep 

Server based management and installed with CV-EVA 10.3

Under the controller event - it's asking for correct parser file

 

Event recroded: 

Parsefile for current firmware version not found. Upload correct parse file. CR2306

 

Does anyone have got the handy?

MPX110 FC ports not working Loopback->Port 5

We have a HP EVA 4400. I just replaced our MPX110 switch at our local site (replaced due to bad GigE port).  We have another MPX110 set up at our remote location.

The GigE ports are now working as they should however the FC port is not. These ports are lit amber on the mpx. We are using FC2 and GE2.

The FC2 cable is plugged into port 5 on our brocade (FC1 empty and not plugged into other brocade). The brocade is already configured for aptpolicy1 and port 5 is isl and gport. Even so I ran the commands portCfgISLMode 5,1 and portCfgGport 5,1. The brocade came back with “Same configuration for port 5” so the brocade port already had that configuration.

I still show Loopback->Port  5 on the brocade port where the mpx FC cable is plugged in to.  It doesn’t appear that a FC link is being established between our local mpx and the remote mpx.

 

Brocade shows the following for this mpx FC port 5 (local brocade):

EVA 6400 shows errors messages when update the code

I get the following message when I do the process of code load a disc:

 

The drive could not be loaded. The specific error was: (34) Volume is missing

 

And the leveling process start.

 

It´s normal this happens?

Configuring EVA 3000

Hi,

We just received a EVA3000 array and no one has really worked on that in our team. Going through the manual I realized that for managing EVA we need some appliance on which Command View EVA will be running. But we had not ordered for it with EVA3000. As far as the VA7xxx arrays are concerned Command View VA can be installed on any host machine and even with out that we can still configure the VA Array by connecting a serial terminal and use VFP commands. Is there any provision with EVA for this. Also I would appriciate if any of you can give me with step-by-step procedure for configuring EVA.

How do I move a boot volume on an EVA to a local drive?

Our company sold one of the businesses that had a server that was boot from SAN.  Now we need to install drives in the server and copy/restore the system volume to the internal drive array.

 

We have an HP ProLiant DL380 running Windows Server 2003.

 

Any help would be appreciated.

c7000 sas switch or pass-thru

Firstly I am new to a blade environment, to i apologize in advice if I am missing the obvious

 

But I am trying to reuse some old kit that been discarded by a company I now work for, which is a C7000 with 8 g6 blades.

 

I want to connect an MSA60 (currently in use) and a MDS600 (discarded), but there is no 'SAS module' in the rear of the chassis, from a little investigation I have found the following options :-

 

3GB SAS BL-c Pass-Thru Switch Module    488454-001 

3GB SAS BL-C 8-Port Switch Module           AJ864A

 

I can find little information on the 'passThru' version, I expect as it 16 port, it literally maps one blade to each port, and possibly does not support  zones etc, But can anyone confirm this or give any insight ?

HP EVA Command View question

I have  two HP Command Views Management consoles; one is a Server Based HP StorageWorks COmmand View, v9.4, and the second one is a Array Based HP p6000 Command View Storage, v10.2.   The first on manages two EVAs, an EVA8000 and an EVA p6500, the latter one manages an EVA p6550.  All of them connected to the same Storage Area Network locally, for simplicity, to the same redundant SAN switches.

 

I will be separating the EVA 8000 from the SAN mentioned above. I am hoping to use the Server Based Management (SBM) console to continue managing this EVA 8000 in a separate SAN.    What I'm trying to find out is if the Array Based Management (ABM) console, which currently manages one storage array (EVA p6550)  can manage also the EVA p6500. 

 

Based on what I have read, it looks like the ABM can only manages one storage array,  and that I will need an additional SBM for the remaining EVA p6500, once I moved the EA8000 and its Command View console.  I just need to make sure this is the case so that I don't procure additional unnecessary equipment.

 

Any information, or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

san switch cascading

hi all,

 

i have two hp brocade 8/24 SLKWRM 300 Switches connected to HP EVA. I have all zoning configuration.

 

i have two HP SN3000B SAN Switches connected to 3PAR.  i have all zoning configuration in this switches also.

 

i need to cascade hp SN 3000B switches with eva switches without losing any configuration in both switches.

 

then once in fabric, i can present luns from 3 par to eva servers.

 

how to do that. ?

what i know domain id should be higher in hp SN 3000B san switches to make as subordinate.

 

but i dont want to clear zoning configuration.

 

the plan is to migrate data from EVA to 3par.

EVA CV 9.4 strange error

Hi,

 

I post for the first time in this "itrc" , so i hope i'm in the right place :)

 

We have an EVA 3000 seen by CV9.4 as leveling after disk operation, but at the same time in our CV9.3 the leveling is finished and the EVA is all fine.

 

It is a test EVA, so we make a reboot of the mannap and a reboot of the EVA with no result for CV9.4 always see the leveling at 0% and beginning but the leveling is finished long time ago ...

 

Do you have any idea where this comme from

EVA 3k Battery low charge

Hi,

I have HP 3000 storage, in Command view EVA the controller 1 battery is showing operational state low charge. But battery state is good. No amber indication in array. Whether we need to replace batttery ?

EVA 4400 Config

Hi There

 

I've got a question about configuration and performance on our eva 4400. Please see attached diagram on how the SAN connected up to the network.

 

As we don't have a second switch in the MPX200 we get a warning within eva command view about the second controller.

 

However I was wondering could this be the reason why we only get though put on one of the NIC's even though I've got windows MPIO enable on the server

 

I would like to get a higher though put and availability by using both the NIC's at the same time

LUN Expansion on XP24000

I am configuring LUNs for D2D backups on our XP24000 array and need to know if my LUN expansion methods are proper.

 

I have two internal boxes (3&5) with 15 unused parity groups (RAID5 7D+1P) and two internal boxes (11&13) with two unused parity groups (RAID5 7D+1P) in each box. I have created a single LDEV on each PG utilizing all free space (2872GB) in the PG. Each LDEV is drawn from the CU pool corresponding to the box number, i.e. box # 3 PG 1 = 00:03:00 and box 5 PG 1 = 00:05:00.

 

The backup administrator needs 80 - 90TB for D2D backups. I plan to create eight LUNs >11TB to present to the two backup servers. To do that I will need to concatenate four LDEVs. I have  created two expanded LUNs by adding one LDEV from each box, thinking this would spread the LUN across all four boxes for best performance/redundancy. This used up both PGs in the small boxes (11&13) and leaves 13 PGs in the two large boxes (3&5) for the other six LUNs.

 

How should I align the LDEVS for the final six LUNs ? Two from one box (3) with two from the other box (5) or one from each box plus another one from each box ?

 

00:03:02 + 00:03:03 + 00:05:02 + 00:05:03

 

or

 

00:03:02 + 00:05:02 + 00:03:03 + 00:05:03

 

Or does it make a difference ?

HP P6000 Command view - Disk Group Issue

Greetings,

i have 2 EVA4400 with several enclosures and disk groups configured.

One of the disk groups has 12 Disks (8x146GB and 4x450GB).

The P6000 command view eva shows the following properties for this disk group:

 

Summary:

Total: 1785 GB
Allocated: 990 GB
Allocation level: 55 %
Requested: 989 GB
Oversubscribed: 0 GB

 

Since there is about 45% of non allocated space, it shoud had more space available that indicated (see attachment)

 

Available (estimated)

Vraid0: 5 GB
Vraid1: 0 GB
Vraid5: 2 GB
Vraid6: Not available

 

What seems to be the problem, any help ?
I cannot create any VDisk greater than 5 GB( Vraid0) .

What would be the published/brochure throughput and actual data throughput on these disks ? - How to find the output?
